How & Why to Use Sock Blockers
Honestly, I don’t often block my socks. After all, they are going to stretch over my foot. However, I ALWAYS block my socks when they are knit with a lace or colorwork pattern. Blocking them helps to set the pattern in place and even out the stitches. I also block socks that I am going to give to someone else because they look much nicer after being blocked.
To block your socks, soak them in warm water with a little fine fabric wash like Soak or Eucalan for at least 15 minutes. I like Soak and Eucalan because they do not require rinsing.
To dry them, squeeze out the excess water (don’t wring them!) then roll them in a towel like a jelly roll and squeeze it to remove even more water from your socks. Finally, slip each sock over a sock blocker and hang to dry. You want your sock to stretch slightly over the sock blocker.
