Basic Brioche Headband

I’ll be honest… It’s taken me a while to tackle brioche knitting because there are just soooo many patterns I’d like to knit that are not brioche. But I’m glad I finally did it. There’s nothing like the soft, squishy material of brioche!

The Basic Brioche Headband KAL is a fantastic introduction to brioche knitting. It’s a quick project that can be done with leftover yarn, and it is very repetitive. You’ll get in a “brioche groove” while knitting this headband.

This Basic Brioche Headband KAL is the first in a series of 3 brioche knit alongs. Each one is designed to build your brioche knitting skills in a logical, non-stressful way. In this KAL, you will learn the basic brioche stitches. In the next one, you will learn to knit brioche in the round and 3 more brioche stitches. The last KAL of the series is a 2-color brioche project, incorporating the stitches you’ve already learned.

If you are a new member of the Knit Along Club, please take a few minutes to complete the New Member Orientation. It is a short course that will teach you how to use the Knit Along Club website and get the most out of your membership.

In this KAL you will learn how to:

  • Knit the 2 most basic brioche stitches
  • Do a provisional crochet cast on
  • Read brioche stitches to aid in avoiding mistakes
  • Use a lifeline so you never have to rip out all your work again
  • Kitchener stitch the ends together for a seamless headband

Participants must know how to cast on and do the knit stitch prior to starting this KAL.

  • Basic Brioche Headband pattern ((Download it free from our website or from Ravelry)
  • Worsted weight yarn, approx. 1 oz / 57 yds
  • US 7 (4.5mm) Needles (or one size smaller than you normally use for worsted weight yarn)
  • Stitch markers
  • Darning needle
  • Waste yarn for lifeline (optional)
